Take Your Dreams Shopping

As adults, we look at dreams reluctantly. Dreaming is either considered “kid’s play” or we often think of dreams as a negative…what we haven’t accomplished in our lives.

Yet we do dream every day. That new car, visions of our family and yes, even where we would like to go or do. But understanding your dreams and what they mean to you is the first step to converting them into real life goals.

And the best way to do that is to take your dreams shopping!

How do we shop? Think of strolling down an area with rows of shops. We look in the window at what they have to offer. Oftentimes we see something we like, but quickly dismiss it, because we’re sure it’s too expensive or not look right and so on. We shoot down the idea before we even take a good look at it.

But, we sometimes do go in, and check it out closer. If its clothes, you hold it up, maybe even try it on and check how you look in front of the mirror. Even though you may end up not purchasing the item, you certainly spent more time and effort checking out the possibility of purchasing it much more thoroughly than just looking in the front window.

And so it should be with dreams.

When you come up with a dream or idea, do you (or someone close to you) shoot down it down before giving it much thought? Did you just figuratively look in the window, say to yourself, “I can’t do that” or “I can’t have that”?

Go inside and try on your dream!

Look at what you want to do. Explore it. Spend time and think about whether this is something you really want to do. What would it take for you to be able to do it? Maybe there are more things that you would have to do to achieve the dream, but that’s ok.

Just like that shopping idea, try your dream on, see if it fits you and makes you feel good. Check out the price tag. It may be more than you were initially willing to pay, but if it’s a dream that you would really want, would it be worth what you have to in order to achieve your dream?

So go ahead and shop your dream!
